Rhythm rules

Learn the core rules of a NoteFlame run.

Understand the highway, notes, timing, combo, health, scoring, and difficulties before you jump into a song.

Main objective

  • NoteFlame is a browser rhythm game inspired by guitar-style music games. Notes travel down the highway toward the timing line, and your goal is to hit them at the right moment.
  • A strong run means hitting notes cleanly, keeping combo alive, avoiding misses, surviving the health bar, and finishing with the best score you can.

3 note types

The note shape tells you whether you need to strum or only press the matching fret.

Solid note

Strum required

A full colored note. Hold the matching fret and strum when it reaches the timing line.

White note

Combo 1+

A full white note. If your combo is 1 or higher, you do not need to strum. Just press the matching fret as it crosses the timing line.

Hollow note

No strum

A note with only a lane-colored outline. No strum required — just press the matching fret on time.

  • NoteFlame has three visual note types. The shape tells you whether you need to strum or only press the matching fret.

Hold notes

  • Hold notes are long notes that you press and keep holding until the note ends.
  • Dropping a hold note too early can hurt your combo run and reduce your score potential.

Timing results

  • Perfect: the cleanest timing hit.
  • Good: still counts, but less accurate than Perfect.
  • Miss: breaks combo, hurts health.

Score systems

  • Score increases as you hit notes.
  • Combo tracks your current streak.
  • Multiplier can increase up to x6 when you keep hitting notes.
  • Health shows whether you are surviving the run.
  • Progress shows how far you are through the song.

Difficulties

  • Easy: 3 lanes, best for learning the rhythm.
  • Medium: 4 lanes, more movement and timing pressure.
  • Hard: 5 lanes, faster patterns and more pressure.
  • Expert: 5 lanes, built for players chasing stronger runs and higher scores.
